In 2017 I met Roselyne Chues, a woman on a mission to get justice for her and her mother. At the time I thought it had all the makings of an important documentary. I still do. I wrote this in 2017 but never published it. I talked to Rose recently. She is still fighting. ~Bryan
Help Rose and her mom with their legal costs. Visit their gofundme here.
“This is the story of people too eager to dismiss or too tempted to exploit, played out in a local, close knit religious community. It's also the story of a woman with amazing superpowers, but catastrophic weaknesses, who had the courage to fight back."
Why does it seem the world is out to get Rose and her Mother? This documentary will try and determine that. One explanation is the snowball effect. Because of Rose and her Mother’s inability to communicate ‘normally’ the things they have said and done to try and fix their situations have backfired. To outsiders they appear entitled, dismissive, suspiciously awkward. Rose always tries to watch the faces of those she is talking too closely, to better understand them. She therefore likes to get close while talking. In the context of dealing with a police officer, Rose has on several occasions found herself in hot water.

Every day news stories come out discussing the implications and effects of disabilities like autism or PTSD. Rose, with her situation, her personality, her art and her coat, is the perfect vehicle to help shine a light on communication disabilities and their implications.
THE NEED FOR THIS FILM
To help us all understand how it can be that two women with diagnosed communication challenges, could have ended up in such a horrible situation.
To help the average Canadian understand how our legal system and aid structures currently deal with people who have communication disabilities.
To show how easy and common it is for people (specifically lawyers, police officers and other professionals) to misread a communication disability as a lack of intelligence or as disrespect.
To show how this can therefore lead to calamitous emotional and financial distress.
To show how bad things can get when these combining factors are put into a small county environment.
To show ways in which the system can be made more fair and hopefully help Julia and Rose get their life back.
