On January 6th, 2021 in Washington D.C. there was an attempted coup in the United States. Part of Donald Trump's plan was to spirit Mike Pence away using the chaos, created by his supporters, and his orders to the secret service he had direct control over.
When Mike Pence was led into a parking garage below the capital those agents urged him to get inside a waiting armoured limousine. Pence knew if he left the capital he could "end up in Alaska", and it would guarantee the delay of the certification of the vote. Mike Pence, long ridiculed as a Trump sycophant, may have single handedly saved American democracy that day when he said to his secret service escorts, "I'm Not Getting In That Car". I never thought I'd ever say this, but thank you Mike Pence for drawing the line when it mattered most.
